Allan Edgar Kegley

Allan Edgar Kegley, 86, of Janesville, WI died at his home on Wednesday, June 17, 2015. He was born on March 2, 1929 in Menominee, WI, the son of Rev. Vern and Helen (Smith) Kegley. At age of two his father passed away. His mother and he then moved to Soldiers Grove, WI and lived with his grandparents, Ross and Ella (Warren) Smith. His mother worked at Lowery’s Variety Store and her parents were helpful in raising Allan. He attended Soldiers Grove schools and graduated in 1947. On October 16, 1949 he was united in marriage to Aileen (Sime) at the Lutheran parsonage in Mt. Sterling, WI. It was a double wedding with Lawrence Olson and Barbara (Ford). Out of this marriage they were blessed with two daughters, Linda M and Marsha A. Allan was employed by the Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Co. for many years where he was an assistant manager and manager. Upon his learning that the stores would be closing in this area, he took and passed a civil service test for the United States Postal Service. He was employed for over 26 years as a letter carrier retirng on December 2, 1992. Over the years, Allan and Aileen lived in Soldiers Grove, Readstown, Viroqua Baraboo, Tomah and Janesville. On May 12, 1929 he was baptized in the United Methodist Church. Thru adulthood he took instructions and joined the Lutheran faith in 1949 in Soldiers Grove, WI. He was a avid hunter, fisherman and loved to golf and bowl. He also loved to travel to various states and countries with friends and family.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Aileen, two daughters, Linda Howell (John Deal) of Readstown and Marsha (Ethan) Jones of Janesville, three grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren all of Readstown, his beloved dogs, Kira and Sadie, also his step-sister, Joanne, many wonderful neighbors and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, in-laws, brother and sister in law, step brothers and step sisters.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 20, 2015 at First Lutheran Church, 612 N. Randall Ave., with Rev. Naomi Garber officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 19th at Henke-Clarson Funeral Home, Janesville. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Monday June 22nd at the Readstown Cemetery, Readstown, WI.
